Hi, new member, I have a 2003 2.1 petrol automatic 67,000 miles past MOT and had service, the last few weeks on acceleration revs up to 4000 and stays at speed I’m doing so foot of accelerator and reapply and high rev start again and slows down. Any ideas please thank you.
Stezmond, when was the last time you cleaned the throttle body on the car? It is sounding like that is sticking. The other thing I would check is the mass air flow sensors. I would clean those too, especially if you like to run the K&N filter. Lets see what you have at that point and then we can dig further into the issue.
Hi. Thanks for advice will try what you suggested
I have changed sensors and filters and spark plugs , hopefully that will help , it’s fine on flat roads soon as you hit a hill and accelerate it don’t pick up but revs go up . 🤦♂️🥴
so far have no fault codes or lights on dash , so frustrating.
Stezmond, it almost sounds like you are experiencing a heavy load and the car is downshifting to try and accelerate. I guess the first question I have is when you apply the e-brake, does the hand only come up say 3 inches (9 cm) with a gradual increase in resistance or can you seem to lift it pretty high and it seems to hit a hard stop, not allowing it to go any higher? If you are hitting that hard stop, it is possible your problem is the rear brakes which would show itself with a simple drive around the block and then getting out and putting you hand near the rear brakes. If they feel hot, you have a sticky e-brake lever (or 2). But, this would be present on flat roads, so, maybe not a highly possible thing.
The other option would be your tranny being low on fluid. This would be seen by the tranny starting to suck some air as you tilt the car. This would cause the car to try and slip out of gear and/or possibly cause the torque converter to not lock and start slipping like it does when you are less than 30 mph. This is where a quick check of your tranny fluid may reveal your issue.
