Intermittent fault with headlights
Hi i'm a newbie to the X type having recently purchased a 3.0 SE which I have to say I am very pleased with. I have noticed occasionally when turning the headlights on that the passenger side does'nt work but at the same time also the dial display lights do not come on either, however after various attempts it will eventually work ok. Does anybody know what might cause this ? Could it be a faulty switch or maybe a relay problem.

Stumpy, because the one headlight comes on, but the other one does not, that rules out the relay and anything upstream. So, this leaves fuse F17, the wiring between the fuse and headlight bulb, or the bulb itself. I would recommend switching fuses F16 and F17 and seeing if the problem moves over to the other side. If it does, then that confirms a bad fuse. If not, you will need to connect a multimeter to the green/white wire on the back side of the passenger side headlight. With the headlight not working, do you have 12 VDC on this wire? If yes, then you have a bad socket going to the headlight or a bad bulb. If no, then you have a wiring problem between the fuse box and the headlight assembly.
If you need more help, just hollar.
