Issues with the X
Hmmm.....As of yesterday / today 2 new issues seem to have appeared.
The engine management light has come on as well as the ABS light, both have stayed on and then went out, then come back on and stayed on, eventually the engine management light went out again but the ABS stayed on[&:]
Its the wifes daily driver so I don't know the history. Took it out for a spin today and both lights came on and stayed on. Tried braking hard and wow......skidded for quite a bit in a cloud of white smoke[8D]
Looked quite impressive but didnt do the rubber any good ( especially as we are in the middle of winter and we need all the traction we can get on our all season tyres....lol )
So - the ABS is not functional.....great!!!
No signs of the car going into limp home mode or playing up at all with regard to the engine management side of things?
As luck would have it my extended warranty ran out around 6 weeks ago[&:]....lol
I have just renewed it today at a cost of £300 so if we can get by for a few weeks I'll be claiminmg on that to get everything checked out!
PS - As its gotten colder again the drivers side door handle is playing up again!!!
Never rains but it pours[&:]

I feel your pain Jim, murphys law always seems to come true. My X-typedoes the check engine light tag as well. One week its off, the other week its on. As far asABS your module probably failed. Unfortunately, they arequite expensive. My drivers side door acts up as well, we got alot of snow today 10" and my car was ablock of ice, so naturallyall the doors freeze shut.Good luckwith your car.

RE: Issues with the X
a local car parts place here will read the OBD 2 codes for freee. and when my abs faulted it was able to give the code. Typically the problem is going to be the rear sensor rings on the CV joints. you can see the problem if you get the car in the air.
the front rings are part of the bearing dustseal, and quite hard to inspect. either repair is about 300 bucks in parts .. same in labour

Yeah my handle has been acting up but not like it was before. My handle now kind of stays up a little instead of going all the way flush to the body...
Good luck with the fix I'd wait it out as well and get her fixed up under warranty!

RE: Issues with the X
remove the door panel, then lube up the mechanism. it is a bit hard because the latch mechanism is almost sealed.
the handles, inside and out are attached to the latch mechanism by rods that have threaded ends. where they attach to the latch there is a plastic grooved clip that the threads clip into. If you have the door panel apart, you will see what I mean. To adjust you need to unclip the threaded part and re-clip it into a better spot, this may be only the distance of a thread or two.
There is a mild caution that the door panel is clipped to the door with frigging tight clips, and you will probably break a few plastic parts on the door panel. I repaired mine before clipping the panel back on.. I wonder what the dealer does?

Screw that...I'll deal with the minor issue its leaving me...mostly I think its because its cold and ice gets in there...last time I tried to fix my door I got a door that still doesn't open that is still exposed and is missing all of the parts to it...I called a junkyard and they just so happened to have my color door for my escape and everything untouched for 200 bucks...I couldn't make it out there until monday but I let them know...I show up there monday (in the summertime) and go to look at the door and its completely torn apart like a freaking vulture was attacking the think...door was worse off than mine someone totally ripped all the parts to the door. I was so pissed because I wouldn't have taken the door apart if I would have known I didn't have a back up plan...than I called other places and they wanted 500 bucks for the same door and not the same color....I was so disgruntled! [:@] The worse part is I was told nobody had touched it....well they certainly didn't just touch it they raped the door!

RE: Issues with the X
Wow........like £1500 here then equivealent I guess.
Well, the issues still remain and the warranty should kick in mid / late Jan and as she's still running ok I'm gonna wait till then. Then we'll see just how good it is I guess.
I'll keep you posted although if good it'll only really benefit the UK members
