Jag security issue question

I have a gauge repair business and will try any repair once .....
I recently fixed a gauge on a 02 jaguar x-type and thought all was good when I had the gauge motors I needed for the fix and it was a easy repair until Im guessing it set off the alarm and wouldnt crank.(it did crank when we started but the remote never worked)
I tried the remote and its dead and was dead when we started this
we added a new battery and even went and borrowed another remote that also didn't work
as far as I can tell with all the reading Ive done that to disarm the alarm I need the remote to work and to hit lock twice.

Quote:

1. Insert key into ignition
2. Turn the key to ''I"
3. Turn the key to
"II" and back to ''I'' quickly 4 times
4. Alarm system should chime once
when the key is back to ''I'' for the
4th time
5. Remove the key from
the ignition
6. Press any button on each key fob and the alarm system will
chime

I went thru the routime above to program the remote and heard the chime and all but when I hit any button on the remote it wont work
is there any way to disarm the alarm without the remote working?
I have the owner mad at me now and it was just a simple repair(I thought)

According to the user manual the key in the door should turn off the alarm.
