Smile Jag won't start, immobiliser issue

Hi,

My name's Matt - I am new to this forum and must admit am very glad I got here as there's so much of valuable info! I will be very grateful if anyone could advise.

Yesterday when I was switching the car on, the key slipped from my fingers and got back to auxiliary (II) phase before the engine actually started (it just cranked for half a sec). I took out the key and tried to run it again - this resulted in the red light coming up on the board with info that there's a fault in Immobiliser - the moment I try to switch the engine on, it cuts the electricity off and restarts the touchscreen.

I can close/open the door remotely with no issues, everything basically works - radio, lights etc. except the fact it just won't launch. Tried disconnecting the battery, using spare key but this brought no positive results.

Is there anything that can be done without the need of towing a car and engaging a specialist?

Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention (can't see it in the sig either) that the model itself is 2002 3.0 X-type Executive AWD Automatic

The immobilizer is like a circuit breaker. It is located I think on the right side panel in the footwell behind a trim cover on the body side of the vehicle. You press down on the button on the top to reset it.

Thank you for the response, I will give it a check today.

I have found additional information regarding PATS errors and on how to re-program the keyfobs - do you think this could help? On the other side, the keyfob remote connection works without any problems and can open/close the door/turn on the panic alarm mode etc.

I wouldn't have any problem with servicing the Jag in authorized dealership but I have just invested half of its worth into repairs (had a "little" accident) and frankly speaking am afraid this Immobiliser issue may be costly to resolve...

Is this the first time you have tried to start it since the accident? If so, there IS a very good chance that is the reason it won't start and you might be able to resolve within a few seconds. If it was running since the accident and you are starting to get issues like this, could be a lot of things and difficult to trace down. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Hey,

the accident taken place in September last year, got it back in November and it has been running more or less smoothly ever since...

Must admit this isn't the first time such fault with Immo occurred - happened once previously but it was enough for me to take the key out, close/open up the Jag with remote key and it would crank... now it's been 3 days it's dead.

Just wanted to update:

managed to obtain a brand new battery - no result
tried to reset the immo via the button in the footwell - no result

Not sure how it is in US or so, but in Poland they charge outrageous amounts for Jag electricity repairs - for now I will just leave it there sitting and rotting

Funny story - just out of boredom I decided to charge the battery that was currently in Jag and guess what - it worked perfectly fine and runs as smooth as never!

This is kind of weird, considering that the Jag wouldn't crank with the brand new battery but I guess the car must be really sensitive to voltage - perhaps the brand new battery was too weak?

Anyway, issue resolved by accident

Always advisable, even with new batteries, to fully charge them yourself before use. I would do it anyway, the new one may be perfectly serviceable.
