Hi. For only the second time in 6 years, my Jaguar X Type has failed me. It simply won't start. The Engine Check symbol has come up, but I'm unsure what to check for. The cars sounds as though the battery is flat, but it isn't. Any ideas welcomed please. Thanks in advance.

 

Jen, first things first, try to start the car, but this time leaving the door open. As you turn the key, watch the dome/overhead light. Does the light dim, stay nice and bright, or go out completely? If all is good, the light should dim some. If the light goes out completely, then you have an electrical problem (either bad battery or high resistance wire). If the light remains bright, then your starter is not getting the signal to try and start the engine. Let me know what you have and then we can take it from there. Also, do you know how to use a multimeter? This may come in handy if it is an electrical problem.
