I have a 2002 x type 2.5 v6 automatic with 130000 km it has no reverse gear.
When it's in reverse doesn't move. the previous owner drove the car into his driveway and couldn't reverse out and it's been like this ever since.
The car drives forward fine. Is the a common problem with the x type?

if anyone has any ideas ?

and see where your VIN/ serial number is relative to cars with known issues.

 

Does the Reverse indicator on your shifter light red when you shift into reverse? The very first thing I'd look at is that, if the J-gate microswitch moved or failed, there is no signal telling the car trans to go into reverse.

Do the reverse lights on the rear of the car work?

If you look at the top of the transmission, there is a wire connector with a green/yellow or green/red wire , see if you have 12v there when the shifter is in reverse.

The odds are fair that it is a minor electrical issue rather than mechanical.

 

I checked the Reverse indicator light on the shifter It's on.
the reverse lights on the rear of the car work.
when i put into reverse it sounds like it in reverse i but i can roll the backwards while in reverse. I'll have a look at the microswitch.
