Jaguar XK wheels onto my X-Type

Hi there,
Is there anyone that can help me, I have just purchased a nice set of Jaguar Venus wheels, hoping to put them onto my X-Type. They are 18 inch and the tyres are a little too big (275/40 ZR 18'S FOR THE REAR AND TWO 245/40 ZR 18 'S FOR THE FRONT ). I was wondering if anyone knew if i changed the tyres to a more suitable size whether these would fit due to the offset being different as these wheels are quite fat and lovely looking of course :-)

Richie, I think you are going to have perpetual problems with these rims regardless of the tire size that you fit on there. The XK wheels are 8.5" wide where the factory 17" X-type wheels are only 7.5" wide. This is a significant difference and the X-Type doesn't have a lot of spare room in the wheel wells. If you are going to have a chance, you will need to step down to 235/40R18's and put those on the rim. But then, you are going to find that the rim is going to be wider than the tire and is going to leave the rim open to lots of damage.
I would tell you to try putting the 245's on the car as is and without moving the car, try turning the wheel and seeing if you get any rubbing. You don't want to move the car as the tires will be different sizes and this can lead to problems with the transfer case (all tires need to be the same size). So, at a minimum you will need to buy 2 new tires (replacing the 275's) so all your tires are 245's. But then, that may lead to the issue I was talking about before in that the rear rims are wider, which will lead to a visual problem. Sounds like too much hassle for me.
Wish you luck if you do attempt to get this done.

Thanks Thermo for your information. I have now since read a lot more on this forum which i think is great because of guys like you and can't say thanks enough for all the useful tips i've picked up now. I don't think i'll bother messing with these wheels now and move on and try and sell them i guess.
Cheers
