jatco jf506e only drives in reverse
so not an x type but i believe the same transmission right ?
im looking at buying my neighbor a 2004 landrover freelander....issue is that it only drives in reverse.
lots of info when there is a NO reverse condition but very little for a "no forward gears" condition
anyone have this issue with this transmission?

tons of info about NO reverse online... lol
ive never worked on a trans before but im thinking this might be a cheap(ish) way to learn,
im also leaning toward low fluid
a. because too little info out there
b. reverse gear is at bottom of the gear stack from what ive seen

Here you go iownme, if it is not the linkage components (as you know) or the fuse, this has a post in it from a mechanic that found the problem. Based on no "limp mode" & no codes thrown.

You can also search for VW 09a (what they call the 506e)

thankyou gents!
after much reading it looks do-able,
possibly a cracked reverse piston as
most of these common trans issues
seem to be from that, couple of other
possibilities too.
ive never worked on a trans before
so its about time i tried.
the car is super clean, no rust and
91000...$700
the job can be done insitu and will be handy
to know for the x typers too
