Default K&N air fillters

I was thinking of switching my current factory air intake assembly to a K&N system. I was told it will noticeably improve performance and gas millage......thoughts?

The differences would not be noticeable (aside from a placebo effect). The only real difference with a cone filter is that it isn't as muffled -> you can hear the engine growl more. That was the sole reason I really went for one.

These pieces of advice are really speaking from experience I'm betting..I had a K&N and didn't notice a bit of difference..the only real advantage is you can get more miles on one before the cleaning mess you have to do..then there is the possibility of over oiling it and that puts an oil film on the MAF sensor, which then you have to clean because it affects the idle and mileage.

So IMO..stay with a quality dry filter like a WIX....I run those in my XF now too

thanks for all the tips, I will probably just stay with the factory filter. I'm a cheap ******* (lol) and would do anything to increase the already impressive gas millage in my cat. It would be nice to enhance the "Growl" of my engine but if thats the only benefit then i can spend my money elsewhere on my girl.... Thank you again everyone for your input.

The AEM DryFlow is as the name implies, washable yet needs no oiling. I got it partly because the filtration rate is supposedly extremely good, partly because of my fears regarding accidentally oiling the MAF.

I maybe stupid..but I looked all over the net and could not find any reference to replacement Air-filters under the AEM Dryflow brand for Jaguar..X-types or XF.

AEM Air Intake and Air Filter Search - Aftermarket Performance

Their Chat room:

[DPK] Does AEM make a Dryflow replacement Air-filter for the 2012 Jaguar Naturally Aspirated 5.0L engine?

[Robert] Hello and welcome to Live Chat. Please give me a moment while I review your request.

[Robert] No we do not.

[DPK] Okay..thanks

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean a drop-in replacement; I have a cone. While they have DryFlow-drop-in filters as well, none apparently for Jaguars.

Steve, like was mentioned, adding the K&N filter setup (or any other filter of the same concept) does not help modern day cars. The engineering that goes into these cars is pretty intense and if the manufacturer could have squeezed another 0.1 MPG out of the car because of the intake, they would have done it. Now, with that being said, if you do other performance modifications, then you can possible see a gain.

The big "gain" that you may want to consider is that once you buy the K&N filter, you never have to buy another air filter again. So, you simply pull out the old one, clean it and then put it back in. A little more money up front, but over 50K miles, it will actually save you money ($50 for the K&N filter only, or $20 each for a paper filter you change every 15K miles). NOw the question is whether you plan on keep the car for that long.
