Default key fob /starter problems

hi could anyone help with my x-type problems, the car has refused to start a couple of times. when turning the key the dash lights come on and all the dials flick back and forth, also the door locks open and close, the car only starts with a jump from another car but I don't think it is the car battery. Also the fob doesn't always operate the central-locking and I have to lock it with the key, but when I unlock it (again with the key) the alarm is still active until I put the key in the ignition and turn the key. hope this helps someone, thanks.
