Key Got Wet
My husband had left the key in his swim trunks and swam at the beach. We tried to unlock the door manually but it would not work. The alarm is also still on. Unfortunately, we did not bring the spare key and had to abandon our vehicle at the beach. Hopefully it's still there. Does anyone have any experience or advice about this?

Um, silly question as to why you didn't just use the key in the door? When you insert the key in the door it disables the alarm.......
As for the wet FOB, remove the battery, get a spray electrical contact cleaner (to remove the salt) let dry and insert new battery......should be good to go....

RE: Key Got Wet
We tried to use the key in the door and it didn't work. It didn't disable the alarm nor unlock the car. After we hitched a ride back to the hotel, we opened the FOB and saw that the circuitry was rusty in some places. We're going to try your idea about the cleaner. Thanks for the advice. In the meantime, we had someone send us our spare. And we are ordering a new key.
Word of advice to anyone this happens to, your dealer will not be able to send you a new key without your car so it could be programmed. They need the car for the programming of the key according to the dealer. Since our car was abandoned at the beach and immobile, and the nearest dealership was 300 miles away, that was not an option. One option was to order a new key and have a key company in the area program it. We found one of those programmers in the area but ended up not needing his service.
After we finally got our car, my husband was talking to another guy who lost his key in the ocean at the hotel checkout. We told him what we did and I hope he was able to figure our something.

Shame you didn't do what millions others have done when at beach...tuck your keys in your shoe... lol....
I am somewhat puzzled as to why your key didn't open the door, i just tried it on mine and it works fine...locks..unlocks and rolls up windows (if they are down)....
Oh well...

Strange things happens - my friends played a trick on me on a pool party- & tripped me into the pool - I had my car keys on me - I didn't know until it was time to go home & my keys wouldn't work - anyway something with my driver door wouldn't open with key - I found that the door was replace from first owner so maybe that's what happen to your car - also any advice - I still have the fob key it's not working- I had to buy another one - but would like to fix this one just in cast

You can also use a very soft pencil eraser to clean the circuitry after you wash it, and you can bake it in the oven at a very low temp to dry out the water. But hairdryer works, too. NOTE, if you get it too hot to hold, you went too far. Commercial microcircuits are not designed for over 70 deg C.
You can program a new fob yourself to lock and unlock doors and boot on the X-type. But the ignition security probably does require a trip to the dealer or a modern locksmith with a programmer. The car has to be programmed to the key. It has to be told which keys belong to it.
