Um, silly question as to why you didn't just use the key in the door? When you insert the key in the door it disables the alarm.......

As for the wet FOB, remove the battery, get a spray electrical contact cleaner (to remove the salt) let dry and insert new battery......should be good to go....

Shame you didn't do what millions others have done when at beach...tuck your keys in your shoe... lol....
I am somewhat puzzled as to why your key didn't open the door, i just tried it on mine and it works fine...locks..unlocks and rolls up windows (if they are down)....

Oh well...

Strange things happens - my friends played a trick on me on a pool party- & tripped me into the pool - I had my car keys on me - I didn't know until it was time to go home & my keys wouldn't work - anyway something with my driver door wouldn't open with key - I found that the door was replace from first owner so maybe that's what happen to your car - also any advice - I still have the fob key it's not working- I had to buy another one - but would like to fix this one just in cast

I couldn't unlock the door manually on my new-to-me X-Type. Or so I thought. It requires significantly more muscle to turn than other cars I was used to.

Of course, I don't expect you to admit to this being the problem in your situation. Ha!

Open it up and rinse the circuit board thoroughly with clean water. Dry it fully with a hair dryer. If there is any visible corrosion carefully scrape it off without damaging anything. Put in a fresh battery. Give it a try.

You can also use a very soft pencil eraser to clean the circuitry after you wash it, and you can bake it in the oven at a very low temp to dry out the water. But hairdryer works, too. NOTE, if you get it too hot to hold, you went too far. Commercial microcircuits are not designed for over 70 deg C.

You can program a new fob yourself to lock and unlock doors and boot on the X-type. But the ignition security probably does require a trip to the dealer or a modern locksmith with a programmer. The car has to be programmed to the key. It has to be told which keys belong to it.
