Default Keys to success

Dear All,
I'm a new member to the website, and to Jaguar ownership. I've recently purchased a 2003 X-Type, and I have an issue I'd like to resolve.
I was given 2 key fobs with the car; one works, the other does not. I purchased a key fob "repair kit", which has the replacement rubber keypads, and replacement batteries for the fobs. I've replaced the battery in the dead fob, tried to program it to the car, but still no joy. I can't get the car into programming mode (key on-off 4 times) with the dead fob, but it works with the operating key fob.
Should I try a new battery, or maybe another fob?
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Just to check you used the working fob to get the chime, then pressed a button on the non working fob?

Dear Santer,
Thank you for responding. I got the car into programming mode with the good fob, pressed the unlock button on the good fob, then pressed the unlock button on the bad fob; but the bad fob is still not programmed, or it's not transmitting.

This post has a link for the transmitter not programming

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...17/#post512779

If it is the transmitter, they seem to go from USD 85 to 200 plus

Check the above with them before buying

In the UK auto locksmiths have a gadget which can show if the transmitter works so I would ask one if they can check the fob before getting new parts

Dear Santer,
Thanks to you again. You've given me a new route to follow. I'll contact a local locksmith to determine if the fob is or is not transmitting. If it is not, I'll purchase a new fob, make renewed supplications to the Automotive Gods, and hope that they will smile down upon my feeble efforts.
