Default Knocking sound when i do a tight turn

I have an X-TYPE 2.5L AWD (Petrol) - recently I've noticed whenever I do a tight turn I am getting a knocking sound coming from the front passenger side wheel; Also, she is alright when going over speed bumps, but when she hits a pot hole in the road, I can feel a little bit of a shudder through her steering wheel. What is possibly wrong, is it the bushes, and if so, what is it possibly going to cost me? My JAG is 10 years old and there is 51,000 miles on her.

Christie, I would be looking at the strut bearing. That would be the most likely cuprit. You can check it yourself by simply opening the hood/bonnet, standing on the side of the car near the passenger-front wheel and putting your hands on the fender. Then what you are going to do is as hard as you can, try to push and pull the car side ways to make the front end move as much as possible. Be watching the center of the black circle that is right in front of you. That is the top of the strut with the strut bearing under it. If you can see it moving, then the bearing is bad.

Another way to check is get someone to waggle the steering while you have your hand on top of the strut. You should not feel movement.
