Default Leaky steering rack

Hi everyone, I need some advice concerning a leak. My jaguar has not been used for a fair while, mostly because of this leak and moving house many times. Consequently the car has been locked up in a garage for two years.
Prior to being incarcerated it started leaking power steering fluid, it is coming from the high pressure steering hose where it is attached to the rack. I had a garage look at it, and 'repair' it, the repair lasted about six weeks. Another garage wanted to charge me the best part of a thousand pounds to replace the rack.
Now I am no mechanic surely this is a problem with the o ring in the union? Is it? It seems that the garage number 1 fitted some kind of rubber o ring, is this correct? Should it be nylon? Does the car need a new rack?
The car itself is in extremely good condition with less than 100k, has a full service history, pretty much unmarked. It would be a shame to throw it away in my opinion. Anyone any ideas?

The high pressure hose is only $70 and shouldn't be too hard to replace, the new hose assembly will come with the new o-ring seals. Any mechanic should be able to tell if the hose or rack is bad very quickly.

Worst case, a used or preferably re-manufactured racks cost only $50-$200 on E-bay and labor shouldn't be more than 3-4 hours total to install.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.
