Left low beam bulb refuses to light up.
Hello all again, another one of my small problems here. Recently bought some 5w5 bulbs to replace my front low beams in the X-Type as my left one was out. So i replace them and the right lights up fine with the fog lights and main beams, but the left one will not. I tried with two new bulbs and nothing is happening unfortunately. I have no idea where to begin truthfully with figuring out how to diagnose the light not working, so any assistance on how to go about this is greatly appreciated.
As a side note I noticed that the replacement bulb that is lighting up on the right is quite dim looking, all the H1's that I replaced are very white and very bright though. Odd.
Here is what I used:
New H1 Philips Diamond Vision Halogen 12258DVS2 5000K H1 12V 55W P14 5 Blue W5W | eBay
The H1 Bulbs work great, but the w5w bulbs are seemingly dim, on the side that works.

Check fuse 16 in the engine compartment fuse box. That is the fuse for the Left dip beam. For the bulb that is not as bright you might check and clean the socket. Check and clean the ground connections. The grounds are right behind the headlight assembly bolted to the framework.
It is also common for a poor ground when the bulb holder is pushed in and turned. You might clean the good. Also do a visual inspection for heat damage to the plastic bulb holder. If it has heat damage you can do a forum search for adding an additional ground to the bulb holder. The heat damage is caused by a poor ground.

Georgio, from the sounds of things, you have a bad bulb base. I would try sticking a multimeter meter into the bulb socket to verify that you have 12 VDC there first. After that, I would try taking a small screw driver with the running lights off and bend the tabs a little bit to bring them back out to where they should be. From there, put in a known good bulb and see what you have. If you don't get 12 VDC, then you most likely have a wiring issue. If you have 12 VDC and the bulb still does not want to light, then you will most likely have to replace the bulb base.

Yuck.
Hey quick question as a side note though, can I rewire my fog lights to turn on with my main beams, so they run off the same switch? I feel like a little rewiring on the lights wouldn't be that hard for that, just run the proper wires from the fog lights and splice into the main beams.
Georgio, There seems to be some confusion as to which light bulb you are having a problem with. If it is the small bulb in the top of the high beam lens you need to check and see if the left rear tail light is lit with the lights turned on. If it is then the problem with the small bulb is as Thermo said the holder or the wiring. If the tail light is not lit then you have blown fuse 64 in the fuse box located in the passenger compartment beneath the dash.
I was continually blowing the right side light fuse until I cleaned the bulb holder.

Georgio, here is the trick with getting your fog lights and your high beams to come on at the same time, they both use the same relay to power the lights. So, you would have to jumper from 3 to 4 on the fog light relay to make it so the fog lights always had power and were then controlled only by the headlight switch. The problem comes that in most states (all that I am aware of, but there might be one that isn't), you are only allowed to have 4 beams going at any one time. So, your low (dip) beams will always be on, so there is 2 beams. If you turn on your fog lights, there is an additional 2 beams. If you now also turn on your high beams, you will have 2 more beams on, for a total of 6. By definition, this would be illegal. Besides, if you need your high beams to see a long distance, then you don't need your fog lights to be on immediately in front of the car. Granted, it is your car and what you want is what you can get.
