Default Limp mode - no codes. Please help!

Hi all;
After dealing with other issues with the car this week, I've come to find that there is yet another problem. On the highway (speeds of 60 mph or so) the car will sometimes flash the engine light and alert that cruise control is not available. It will then rev-limit the engine to about 3000 RPM. I understand this is the infamous 'limp home' mode.

The odd part is that there are no engine codes - none... When I back off of the accelerator completely and gently ease back into it, the car returns to normal after a few seconds.

I've been raked over the coals already on parts and repair these past few weeks - I would greatly appreciate anyone's input on what causes this and possible repair paths.

Simon, just for reference, if the car is sensing a problem in one of the other computer systems of the car other than the Powertrain, it will create an error code in that computer, but not flash the check engine light. Now, for which code would be causing what you are seeing, I am at a loss. Taking a quick look through the DTCs, it may be possible that you are getting a problem with the CAN network system inside of the car and that is resulting in a loss of speed sensing to the ECU. This can cause the car to think things are messed up and then limit things to help protect itself. Much beyond that, short of the ECU starting to go on you, can't think of anything else that would cause what you are seeing.

you have a code that is Jaguar specific and youll need IDS to pull the code at the dealer. A generic reader is not capable of pulling many codes. Only really required to pull OBDII codes. I use my generic reader alot cause its fast. But it does pull everything and will say there are no codes when there are.

Unhappy

Hi, all... the situation has changed a bit. Again, while driving the car entered limp mode (does it about 3 times in my 35 mile commute) but this time the check engine light stayed on. This, I guess, is good news since it gives more information. Since I have been babying the car around, I tried to gather some more data by driving it more "normally". I noticed yesterday that the car feels weak in the upper RPM ranges. So I jut got back from taking it to the 'luxury import specialist' (aka European cars only) since the local Jaguar dealership is a bit of a drive away and are criminals anyhow.

The following codes did show up:
  • P0300 - Random misfire detected
  • P0301 - Misfire on cyl 1
  • P0303 - Misfire on cyl 3
  • P0305 - Misfire on cyl 5
  • P0306 - Misfire on cyl 6
  • P1313 - Misfire rate could cause catalyst damage - bank 1
  • U2509 - ECM unable to fulfill CAN torque reduction request ????
  • P1582 - “Flight recorder” data is stored

They have confirmed there are NO transmission codes present. Also, I do want point to out again that the car seems weak in upper RPM ranges (above 4k).

This is a step in the right direction I would say... but I'm still totally lost! The shop is analyzing the data, but has to get through their morning cars before really looking into it. What confuses me the most is that I have replaced practically every part of the air/fuel mix train of parts in the past week:
  • All 6 ignition coils
  • All six fuel injectors
  • Fuel rail
  • Pressure regulator
  • Lower intake

What could possibly be causing misfires in this case? Also, I don't think the ECM was reset since doing all of this work - I wonder if the "adaptive learning" is confused because of changing so many parts. Does that even make sense? Could this be a MAF or throttle body problem?

Default loss of power

Hi plz hope you can help Hi to ALL

I am having some problems with an X-type V6 Petrol year 2005. The car came with expansion tank crack and loss of coolant. client complaints engine overheating. the car arrive on recovery. i changed the expansion with new genuine one and after some diagnostics i also discover the thermostat is faulty so I renew with new genuine part. I allow the engine to idle for 30 minutes approx... with no coolant leaks and fans operating well, so coolant prob is solve. While road testing I diagnose a loss of power. back to garage i perform a compression test and obtain same result with all 6 cylinders (9.5 to 9.8 Bar). While performing scanning of the car i got the following results:
1. Heated oxygen sensor bank 1 42% faulty with open or high resistance
2. Throttle .....available (i forgot) P1582 - “Flight recorder” data is stored
3. MAP permanent DTC
but to remove the P1582 fault the car is in flight recoder mode and i delete it by following some procedures. and its ok, but with MAP sensor permanent DTC. I remove the the inlet manifold and inspect the spark plugs and found all 3 cylinder in bank 1 is filled with dry carbon deposit(burning too rich) but with bank 2 only cylinder 1 is burning light grey and the other two still as new. I perform a data logger and all sensors is operating as it should be. I also remove the MAP and MAF sensors and place it on other vehicle with same engine, it perform very well and replace the MAP and MAF from the other vehicle and place it on the loss of power one, engine still loss of power. No cracks found in inlet manifold. while full throttle the air induct make a sound (vrrroooor) like if its getting too much air.
Please can you help me Thanks
