Default Locking Wheel Nuts

Hi All,

Locking wheel nuts - I believe I have jaguar original wheel nuts but no socket.

Anyone able to advise how to either identify a nut lock socket to remove them or alternatives.

TIA

Please elaborate:
> I believe I have jaguar original wheel nuts but no socket.
What does that mean?
The original wheels nuts - while being crap - require a normal standard socket.

Is you problem maybe that your wheel nuts (with the "loose" outer caps) are damaged and now you think the reason as to why you have problems opening them is that you need a "special socket" for it?

You will find better-than-original wheel nuts and lock nuts on the usual cheap general online sales platforms like ebay, maybe Aliexpress, maybe the one, which starts with "T" - if I were to spell it out, my post would not get to you, as the T-word automatically would block my post...

PCJags, if you are suffering from the loose cap lugnuts, let me know and I will tell you how to get around it. It is a $15 USD tool and a new set of lugnuts. Having an air ratchet or even and electric impact driver will be helpful for this.

I could have been clearer, It would appear that I have the Jaguar supplied locking wheel nuts without the necessary keyed socket, did not come with the car. my fault for not checking.
I tried searching for solutions, but did not spend to long doing so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Sorry the image is so big.

Can I identify the required key number? or rust and poor quality metal might be easier to use your alternative Thermo?

TIA

PCJags, take a look at this tool kit:
YEKEPRO 15 PCS Bolt Extractor Set, 3/8" Drive Impact Bolt & Nut Remover Socket Tool Kit, Stripped For Damaged, Frozen, Studs, Rusted, Rounded-Off Bolts, Nuts & Screws, Cr-Mo Steel, T38215 - Amazon.com YEKEPRO 15 PCS Bolt Extractor Set, 3/8" Drive Impact Bolt & Nut Remover Socket Tool Kit, Stripped For Damaged, Frozen, Studs, Rusted, Rounded-Off Bolts, Nuts & Screws, Cr-Mo Steel, T38215 - Amazon.com

You will find tons of uses for this when it comes to problem nuts and bolts. Having an impact driver is going to be easier to use as you simply put the impact driver in the reverse state, apply the tool to the lugnut and push the tool into the lugnut as you depress the trigger. It will spin off in no time flat. Now, this WILL!!!!! destroy the lugnut. So, plan on having some new ones handy to replace what you remove. But then, as most will say here, upgrading to a single piece lugnut is the way to go and well worth the money spent to get them. Of note, Jaguar used an oddball thread. So, make sure you get the correct thread. Most you will find are M12x1.25. You need M12x1.5.

Yes to 1.5x12mm, plus make sure you buy the correct SHAPE of lug nut as well - there are different shapes.
Also: Apply penetration spray before attempting to remove the old nut and give it time to penetrate into the threaded area.
Nice tool-kit liked by Thermo, Maybe, I'll buy that, too.
And use reverse impact driver, yes.
I have also seen before, how a guy solved that problem at a tyre-shop before: He used a standard socket, which was just a little bit too small for the lock-nut and hammered it over the lock-nut and then used the power-tool (air powered), which they had there...

Thanks Thermo for the recommendation, that brand is not so cheap over here, will be trying another brand see how I get on.

Good thing you mentioned about the thread pitch - most of the 'X type' wheel nuts I have seen seem to be wrong, saves being disappointed.

Thanks again.

What I bought/used, they have an option that includes locking wheel nuts (4) as well.
