Long Time Jag Owner New to Forum
G’day Gents,
I am a long time Jag owner, over twenty years, and am a member of the X305 forum but my lovely XJ12 is getting long in the tooth at nearly 20 years old and with over 360,000 kms on it and things are starting to fail more often than not.
I am replacing it with a very nice low mileage 2004 X Type Sport with the 3.0 litre engine. I like it a lot it is comfortable and smooth and the performance is quite good.
However one of the remote key fobs needed a new battery and then to be reprogrammed so I went through the procedure and got all the correct beeps etc and initially I thought it had all worked correctly but now I discover that when I try to unlock the car only the rear doors will unlock so that I can open them with the external handles, neither front door can be opened using the external handles. I can see both the front door locking levers move to the unlocked position but the external handles still won’t open the doors.
Even when I use the key to unlock the front door I still can’t open it using the external handle. The inside handles work correctly.
I thought I would try to reprogramming routing again but the car electronics won’t enter the correct mode so I am stuck. It is a nuisance reaching to the front doors from the back seat to open my front doors.
Any suggestions gents as to how I should proceed?

G'day Gents,
Well it turned out to be an unrelated coincidental fault and I hate them.
Both front door latches had bound up at the same time and coincident with my reprogramming the remotes.
I took the driver's door cover off and checked all the linkages etc and it all looked good though a little dry so I lubed everything in sight, rods, latches and handles and worked it all backwards and forwards several times and it now performs flawlessly. I repeated the procedure with the passenger's front door and it now also functions flawlessly.
I lubed the rear door latches and boot/trunk lock as well and all is good.
