Default Losing Power

Hi, so happy to be part of this forum. My husband purchased our 2004 X Type 3.0 about 2 months ago. About 3 weeks into driving the car, suddenly the Engine Malfunction and the Powertrain Malfunction lights came on and the car lost power. After shutting the engine off for a few minutes, the lights went out and power was restored. Pulled out the manual and followed suggestions about checking the water in battery, we added water because it was low. Well, about a week later, we noticed Acid underneath our garage from the car. Two of the cells had been leaking. Thinking it was the battery, and no I didn't have it checked, we replaced the battery thinking that was the problem. Not a chance!!! Now the Engine Malfunction lights is coming on and car is losing power again, and when engine is off, there is a humming sound coming from dash, that sounds like something is running. Checked all the fuses and couldn't find anything there. Would love for someone to please share advice, answer about what possible could be the problem. I am trying to save money so I am hoping I can have this repaired without having to take the car to a Jaguar Dealer. Feedback greatly appreciated. "Patricia"

Any diagnosis should begin with reading the OBDII codes. Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free. Post the codes here (actual codes, not their interpretation of them) along with the mileage and we will try to help.
If you are going to be maintaining this car yourself, you should get a code reader. If you have an android phone or tablet with bluetooth, you can get am elm327 module and purchase the Torque app for less than $20 and get lots of information on what's going on with your car.

Welcome to the club Patricia - I'm sure the helpful friendly people here will help you get this sorted in no time :-)

As an alternative to the ELM reader from E-Bay + the Torque app on Android - Autozone/Pep Boys/Your-favorite-discount-auto-store sell simple Acton brand OBD readers for about $50 - mine has always worked even when the fancier ELM setup has not.

Good luck!
