Maybe I'm the only one with this problem. When the car is sitting and running the engine sounds kind of loud, not like someone is pushing on the gas just loud. Also the fans real loud. My cat use to purr now always growling? Any one else with this problem or have suggestions?

Maybe you have a small rust spot on your exhaust or your motor mounts have worn out a little bit. As for the fans, do they run all the time? One of the most common problems with this vehicle is that the fan control modules fail prematurely which causes the fans to operate erratically.

No rust on the exhaust,it doesn't sound like an exhaust leak and the motor mounts I'm sure are fine as that wouldn't make the engine sound louder. The fan control module sounds like that could be an issue because they are always on at crazy times. How would I fix this or find out if this is the problem?

if fans are acting strange on an x-type, 99% of the time it has to do with a failed fan control module. Some members are on their third or fourth control module for various reasons. I personally decided I could no longer take swapping out fan control modules and just hooked up a switch near my fuse box which controls my fans. To fix this is actually really easy and you can do it with household tools. Go onto ebay or rockauto.com and buy a new or used OEM fan control module. The fan control module sits around the back of the radiator fans and once you see a picture of it on ebay or a someplace like that, you will know exactly what has to be done. The only hard part is that you will probably cut up your hands a couple times trying to get your hands in the small space around the fan control module.

So your car sounds loud, but it's not coming from the engine?
