Default low coolant level

Hi guys,

I have a 55 plate 3.0 x-type.. my question is can constantly using the air conditioning affect the coolant level, as mine seems to need topping up every few weeks from min back to max... i have already had the water pump replaced 6 months ago and can see no visible leaks.. any ideas anyone?

snoook, it could be you have a slight leak from the heater core in the dash. WOuld not be the first I have heard of. Granted, the more likely situation is the vent line to the top of the coolant bottle has a small crack in it and as you drive the car, the system pressure will force the crack open and allow a very small amount of coolant to leak out. hence why over time you are loosing a small amount of coolant. If you look at the nipple facing the brake booster, see if you can spot a very white line in the plastic. If so, that is a crack. You can try tugging on it a little bit, but be very careful. THis piece is known for failing and if it is already cracked, I would hate to see you break it off completely.
