Maintenance Schedule

Maintenance Schedule
So I'm looking over the "official" maintenance schedule and I see that it only calls for oil changes every 10,000 miles and a new air filter every 30,000 miles! Normally Ichange oil in my cars around 3,000-5,000 miles and air filters probably once a year.
Should I be doing some extra changes in between the scheduled services or is that useless with the Jag?

RE: Maintenance Schedule
Like everything else skyjump.........it all depends on who you ask....lol
Most on here do their oil change every 3,000 - 5,000 miles, there are some who do the 10,000 mile oil change as recommended by the manufacturer. I personally go with the manufacturers times as will their millions of pounds spent on research, I'm sure they know what they're talkin about.
Basically, its all down to personal preference mate!

RE: Maintenance Schedule
I suppose it depends on whereyou live.
If you live in a place for example near the coast where its sandy or any where else where its dusty, sandy, dirty or polluted, etc change the filter more often.
Its worth checking it every service.
Personally I wouldnt leave the air filter 30k.
My dad lives 2 miles from me and his filter was absolutely minging at 20k (not a Jag). He's a retired chief marine engineer who says they need changing more often if they get like his at 20k.

RE: Maintenance Schedule
Your main culprit for an extended interval is not the oil itself, but rather the filter.
Be sure to purchase a high quality extended filter like K&N.
BTW, what kind of oil filters does Jag use from the factory?
Also, another alternative to figure out what's best for your vehicle is to get the oil analyzed via a GC/MS. Can get this done rather cheaply from Blackstone labs (It's like $20 to get an oil analysis). Very well known outfit on BITOG. I've done it on my Contour, and use Walmart Synthetic Supertech crap and a Motorcraft filter every 6k miles.
FYI, I was a follower of M1 till I found about their non-PAO, group III issue on BITOG. I savea heap with Supertech's synthetic oil. If you got the dough, I would go with Amsoil.

RE: Maintenance Schedule
Jaguar recommends 10,000 mile intervals to keep their costs down during the warranty period.
Consider it like the generation of daughters who cut the end off the ham. Only because the first generation didn't have a big enough pan. You should change the oil every 5000 with conventional.
Running conventional oil for 10,000 miles is a stretch. It gets quite nasty after 5000. Now synthetic can handle 10,000 miles. Working in a 5000 mile filter change would be wise.
The maintenance schedule doesn't call for a fuel filter till 70,000. The water pump belt should be changed at that time also.

RE: Maintenance Schedule
How about the fact that the filter size.... (not just the size of the box it comes in but the amount of surface of filter area) ..... may have something to do with how often to change it.
for sure when it is run in dusty conditions ( also covered in the manual) you change it more often.
I tap the loose dust out of mine a couple of times a year and see when it looks too dirty.

RE: Maintenance Schedule
Thanks for the responses. I'll probably just play it safe and change the oil once between the scheduled maintenances. As for the air filter I do live in an arid, dusty climate (Colorado). The air filter will definitely need changing more often than 30k.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
