I have water pouring from the front of the engine. The picture doesn't really show the water, but it's comming out fast just where the wettest part of the ground is. I drove home yesterday and about 3 miles from home it got hot. Red lights too! But no steam. I don't think I damaged the engine. This morning I topped it off. About three liters. Drove around the block a few times and got home and saw the tirade. The gauge stopped at mid level, but I'm sure if I left it running it would have leaked dry and got hot again.
Any ideas? It's gotta go into the shop, but I'm just trying to get an idea what it's gonna cost me.
Is the water pump around there? Or maybe just a hose?
Ahh, the joy of owning an older British car!

 

2002, have the hoses ever been replaced and yes probably the water pump. Don't know the prices of parts but a lot cheaper doing it yourself. Might as well change the hoses, including heater hoses, flush the system, new thermostat and etc., and drive for another 14 years.

 

Thanks for the fast response. I'm going to attempt to do it myself. Seems pretty straight forward. I saw JagBits sell the pump for $115. Plus a new gasket is $25.
Anyone know if there's a Ford part that'll fit?

 

Your leak appears to be on the passenger side of the vehicle. If that is correct then you have blown a hose. The most likely culprit is the thermostat assembly (part plastics housing and part hose assembly). The water pump is located on the drivers side of the engine.
With the amount of water loss you should be able to refill, run the engine and verify the exact area of the leak.

 

Hard to tell, but it looks like a pretty uniform puddle. Could leak out a little weird with that bottom cover on. I would guess water pump. When mine went I was soooo lucky. Took it to the shop I use to get a slight leak fixed and when they drove it into the bay from where I parked it all of a sudden it went completely and it was gushing like a fountain. Two minutes earlier and I would have had to have it towed in.

It is not the joys of owning an old BRITISH car, it's the joys of older an OLD car. Stuff just gets worn out. Good luck. Hope it is a simple fix.

 

The way it look if you don't see the water come out from the top, it could be from two hoses next to the oil filter, One came from lower radiator to the engine right next to it another one came out from the engine to lower side of thermostat housing, that two are not too hard to replace, the hoses is cheap but the garage would charge you couple of hundred $$ for labor.

 

I just finished replacing the upper hoses which is where my major leak came from. The PLASTIC (T shaped hose) under the air filter box had a 2 inch crack in it. Parts from ebay was $108.00 with free shipping. Wasn't the easiest job, so if you aren't the mechanical type you might want to let a pro do it. In order to reach the nuts on the thermostat plate I had to use a 18 inch extension and ratchet swivel. Took about an hour and a half of unpleasant fun under the car, but it can be done!
