Default Mouse chewed up my underhood liner - my replacement

Put the X to bed for the winter. Once a week I check and start her up. Well to my surprise when I lift up the hood the other day...oh my god...big clumps of the liner insulation the size of a basketball laying on the intake...and out pops a mouse...stands up and looks at me...I can not believe it...this little pest just destroyed my underhood liner...now what?

Well after some research and a call to Gonzo Duque he had a new liner on its way....maybe it was best that the varmit chewed up my old liner...Gonzo's product was a perfect fit & definatly added attention to a normaly dull area under the hood.

P.S. that little guy is in mouse heaven now...

First time trying to post with images...hope they come out..

Comments ???

Very cool. Big difference in price between the aftermarket and Jag original part?

That's awesome, Fixit. I didn't know you could get something like that. How is that attached to the bottom of the hood?

Alfadude___

Liner is held on by 3M #80 adhesive found at Home Depot.

Replaced the original screw inserts - buttons with 1/4" rivit style from National Auto...they were a tad to long though...no problem just snipped the lenght off a hair.

I must add clearance between the liner & intake is not an issue anymore like the original was.

I'm sure the pics look ok to all of U... but nothing like lifting up the hood and seeing it.

For more info check out this blog http://hoodliners.blogspot.com/

I spoke to him ( Gonzo ) personally....he knows what he's doing and is very helpful.

May offer a group purchase discount....just ask him.

Have a great New Year everyone.

Cool. I think I just found another project for when spring decides to show up.

Default Looking great fixit!

I'm glad to have helped you out in cleaning up your underhood and offering a replacement for your original hood bonnet liner with my aircraft material hoodliner. I know how frustrating it is for Jaguar owners to lift the hood and see the original insulator falling apart, rubbing on engine parts and detracting from the appearance.

I also have them listed on the 'Bay as well, on sale even! I'm looking to add more Jaguar models so as to help more owners. Currently I can provide liners for the X-Type and the 1977 to 1991 XJ-S V-12.

very nice product!

What would it take to 'mold' other models...you need an original (in good condition)?

Thanks Matt! To make a liner for other models I could either use an original liner or a template made from it by simply tracing it out onto a dollar store shower curtain using a black Sharpie marker. I have a detailed procedure for doing that and I could e-mail it. I would like to be able to make liners for the XJ-8 as well, among many others!

I was going to ask, my liner rubs on the intake and no matter what even though it's still in great shape the top of the intake always looks like crap where it touches. I think if I'm going to add the tape which I thought I'd do when it gets warmer I will just get the replacement you did and be done with it.

My liners hug the underhood and framing like a "wetsuit" and there's no back-and-forth movement at all like the originals due to the 3M #80 spray adhesive. It weighs around 2 pounds, maybe a few ounces less than that. If the liner ever gets dirty it can be wiped down with a terry cloth towel and Windex, or even with water. Lots more info is on my blogspot page about the liners, plus images that enlarge when you click them.

The "wetsuit" reference came from a very satisfied owner of a 2007 Mustang GT.

I volunteer to be the Xk8 template provider. Email sent.

While you are at it, please checkin with our admin staff (JimC64) and inquire about becoming a vendor here, and you'll be able to openly solicit your product.

Then, you might venture into the XJ and s-type sections and ask for others to help as well. Perhaps offer a 'discount' for the template assistance ($10 or so on their order) and I'm sure you'll find takers.

Matt - thanks, I got your e-mail and the procedure should be with you now!

Hi Jim - thanks for your kind words and the welcome, I'm glad to be here. Although I don't own a Jaguar (yet), my father did. He had a 2003 X-Type 3.0 in steel blue with a light beige interior, pretty much fully loaded. I was very impressed with the power of that engine and how it really "pulled" off the line. It was every bit the acceleration that my 1997 Thunderbird 4.6 Limited Edition V8 is, and my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC with the factory Cobra engine. Maybe a bit more than my TBird! Power, class, luxury, elegance are some of the adjectives I describe that car! A buddy of mine has a 2005 X-Type 3.0 in the maroon color that's on my blogspot page, his was the very first X-Type I made a liner for and he's VERY happy with it.

I'll be sending you a PM shortly!

Thanks again!!

Jim - can't seem to PM you, possibly due to my low posting count. May have to be via e-mail for now!
