Mute On
Long time lurker, first time poster....just always been able to find what I needed without having to post...until now.
I have an '02 with the factory Nav unit. Recently it began acting up, as in the "mute on" would show up out of the blue. Which not only did show up on the screen, it did what it was supposed to do, which is mute the system. I lived with it for awhile, but it has gotten to the point that when it comes on, it doesn't allow me to change the station. I can press the preset, but it does not change the channel. It is almost like the mute on the steering wheel is stuck or something.
If anyone can help me out at all, it would be greatly appreciated!!
I would have just replaced the thing a long time ago had it not been for the fact that the climate controls are built into it. However, those, and the NAV work fine, unless of course you count when "mute on" is on the screen.
On the plus side, I figured out that my singing sucks, as now I can hear myself when the mute comes on without warning.

My guess since the steering wheel button is the only thing I know of that engages the MUTE function..would be to work a little contact cleaner in and around the button, or take it to someone if you are afraid of setting off the airbag and have it taken apart and cleaned..I bet at one time, someone spilled either coffee or a coke on the steering wheel and now is starting to short the button out...Just a guess, like I said.
