Has anybody had this issue.03 x-type 2.5L
When playing a cd the mute cuts in and out every couple of minutes, only on cd does not do it when playing the radio.
I recently noticed that if I hold the mute button in cd plays fine, I'm thinking dirty contacts on the button but why only on cd, I cleaned the laser head on the cd and still cuts in and out off its own accord, also not a bump issue.
What's got me confused is the radio plays OK.
Any suggestions welcome.

I had similar on my 2001 x, but it was with the radio as well.
I gently sprayed the steering wheel controls with wd40, almost immediately problem solved.
That was five years ago when I bought the car, the problem did not return
