Default is my brake booster check valve cracked?

Is this really a crack/break in the check valve? I supposed it could be, and I've been having some vacuum leak issues lately. I only ask because it looks like a very clean cut, so I'm wondering if this flat part is by design, or if it actually just broke somehow.

AML, normally the brake booster hose breaks at the 90 degree elbow, not at the check valve. But, that is "normally". if you are in doubt, take some duct tape and tape over the check valve. Doing this will not affect the operation of the check valve, but should seal up any possible leak. If your problem goes away, then I guess you know where the leak is.

thermo, I noticed after all the work on my car the brake booster hose connection at the intake point easily comes out. One time I noticed it popped out and was hissing. Is it normal for it to easily come out on its on or should it take some real force to pull it out at that point? I get hiccups when taking it around the corner that I didn't get when the original problems started. I am wondering if this is the culprit. thanks

Vacuum hoses fatigue over time, especially where they are stretched over the "barbs" of a connector.

If there is enough extra slack in the hose, you can cut about 1" off the end, creating a fresh new end that will fit snugly over the barbs for awhile longer.

thanks. Looking at a picture of a new one I think I must be missing the fitting the covers the hose at the end. My hose just has a nub that pops in a out of the intake. It looks like there is supposed to be something that fits up to the 90 degree angle on the hose which isn't on mine.

The check valve is actually pretty notorious for deterioration and that's why the new one has that "shrink wrap" style fitting over it. If I recall, there should be a collar that the the hose pops into, in the intake, and it has about 3/4 inch that extends in past the ninety. I seem to remember having to push the collar down while pulling the hose up, so it shouldn't be loose in there.
