My engine is shot
My engine clunked as I went over a railroad crossing today. I smelled burning plastic and saw smoke in the rear view mirror, then the engine shut itself off and I coasted to a stop. I opened the hood and the engine was smoking from the rear valve cover area. I checked below and it was just dripping oil out all over the ground and all the oil leaked out. Had to get it towed. Not sure what the damage is. The engine must have a crack in it somewhere. Smoke and oil pouring out, not good.

Sorry about your troubles.
If it's any consolation, in my experience, the most dramatic failures my Jaguars have given me (puffs of smoke, terrible noises, etc) have typically been the cheapest things to fix.

'04, sorry to hear that. Definitely doesn't sound good. Hope whatever it is it is fixable so you can get back on the road, especially after all the time and money you have put into it the last several months. I can't offer any advice, only my sympathy. Hang in there and let us know what ended up happening.
Hey. '04. Just thought I would check in and see what ended up being the issue with your car. Hope it wasn't something terminal. Any idea what happened and what might have caused it?
The only thing I can think that did it that was this hard bump in an intersection and that rattled something loose, or maybe someone sabotaged it while I was in the casino, I don't know. It was basically a normal drive. I had a lot of people with me but we weren't really going that fast the way up there. No crazy revving or anything. Then I get there and it's just rattling like something got loose. Then I drive it home and it starts rattling a lot by the time I get there. I drove it for about 5 minutes the next day and the engine breaks down over the tracks but I coast it down the road a minute or so and see all the oil spilling out. Now I have to install a whole 'nother engine!

I know your good with mechanical things based on your prior work.
would be cheaper if you buy an engine hoist and do the work your self its not that hard.
check your local scrap yards

That's a tough one, especially after you put all that work into it. Hope you find a suitable engine to replace it that doesn't cost too much. Hope you are back on the road soon.
Maybe these were warning signs?

04xtype04, Sorry to hear about your engine problem. It doesn't sound good. Hope the best for you in getting it fixed. Too bad that a certain person on here just wants to make a joke about it. I think HE needs his muffler bearings changed.
There are a lot of "it's broken, what's wrong with it?" posters here. If after one or two posts he's not willing (or capable) to detail his problem or do any work to sort out then just forget about it. On the other hand there are also a lot of people here with a lot of experience who could really help if the person with the problem just put in a little effort.

Your right Tony, And I agree. But maybe you missed the post that he had on here (Before he deleted them) about checking the point breakers and another one about adjusting the carburetor. Anybody that worked on cars for 20 years should know that they don't even use them anymore.
