I think that it's ok to reply to an old thread, if the thread in question discusses some issue common to the user base, such as "where to get leapers" or "which is the best aftermarket exhaust". However, I'd advise against resurrecting the "I have an issue with my car" as the cases are often practically unique as each vehicle is a bit different, especially when older, so similar symptoms may be caused by entirely different things etc.
