First i would thank you all for a very helpful forum. I have been thinking of buying an X-type for a while but it was after i started to visit jaguarforums.com i made up my mind to make my next car a jaguar.

My problem is the country i live in...Norway. Our car tax system is crazy. I would offcourse love to buy a 2.5L sport but for a 2001 model i would have to pay minimum 29000 euros or about 45 000$ and after reading posts here about all the trouble with the early Xtype models im abit scared to spend this much on a car i most liklely will get some trouble with.

And that leaves me with 2 options that will make your heart bleed....the 156 petrol or the.......131 diesel.

I can currently get a very good price on a 2005 diesel with NAV,leather seats etc but will this be a horribel idea?

Should i buy a 2001 2.5 with a minimum of equipment for 45 000$ or one of the smaller engiene from later years like 2003-2005 with nav etc for around 38 000-40 000$ (25000 euros)?

buy the later years.. less trouble and its diesel

 

No real problems with my 2002 3.0 but giving the later diseasel is 20000 euros less and cheaper to run that has tobe considering.Definately get a Jag though as you dont want to drive a bland,boring car.
