Default Need help getting '05 X-Type to neutral

Ok, I need some help.

I've got a 2005 X-Type 3.0 AWD that I'm working on to replace the head gaskets. I'm a newbie at this and made a (in hindsight) bonehead mistake. When I put the car in the garage, I put it in Park. Now I have the engine torn apart and I find myself needing to move the car. But it won't shift it into Neutral. I tried reconnecting the battery, but I've apparently taken apart too many electrical connectors for that to work.

Is there any sort of quick and easy override that will enable me to shift it into Neutral without power? Surely there's got to be some way. I mean, what if they were going to tow the car and the battery was dead? It's an AWD so they can't just lift up one end and not worry about it.

Any suggestions?

The shift linkage is very easily disconnected at the transmission.

Quickest way is as follows; Open the ashtray, then with finger tips, lift the front edge of the gear lever surround. Ease the back up and remove the whole surround. With a torch, look down the gap on the lefthand side of the gear change assembly; projecting from the middle of the side of the assembly is a small shaft end with a lug on one side of that shaft. With a screw driver, ease that lug forward to rotate the shaft - it moves about 1/8 inch - and while holding it there, pull the gear lever out of Park. Total time, 30 seconds! (The second time you do it!)
