RE: need your opinions and a MPG question
Hey racer,
don't get all defensive man, not sayin all Auto's suck.........lol.....steady mate, steady!!!
I think n_f_e is right, Auto's are for people who either want luxury, can't drive a manual, or are just lazy, maybe even some sorta combination of all 3.
Manuals are (in my opinion) much much more of a drivers car in that you get so much more involved in the driving experience, plus all manuals have that little bit of an edge over their auto equivalents in terms of 0-60 times.
Now I gotta be honest here guys, recently, I've been more and more tempted by the idea of an auto, cos I drive so many miles in the year, must be gettin lazy I think, cos its certainly much more appealing than it ever was before. Cos you can say what you like Auto's do seem more luxurious.
It wasn't my first thought when I saw and test drove my X, but i did think about it.
Maybe when I'm older, maybe.

RE: Manual vs Auto.
Last August I spent 2 hours in NJ on the uphill approach to the GW Bridge. Two hours of riding my clutch! I was surprised I had any clutch left.
That's why, as of January 12th, when I bought my X-Type, for the first time in 30 years, all of our cars are auto. When I can afford to have a car just for fun, though, it will be a manual.

I'm glad my x-type is a auto. I would never have bought this car in a stick, with my driving habits in my 2.0 01 escape with a stick I'd blow the jag engine up! I love acting like my escape is a race car so I'm glad the jag is auto. Occasionally though I show em all what the j-gate is about getting on the itnerstate!

By the way mustang, my 02' 3.0 sport gets about 18-19 mpg on all city doing 0-55 miles per hour and hitting about 10-15 lights that are set up so you get stopped at every one. When I was using interstate 75 (I-75) and some city I averaged 20-24 mpg. Driving the speed limit 70-75 and than 55-60 mph after I got off of I-75 I was getting about 28.3 mpg but that was accelerating very very very consistently not flooring it and all of that! If you plan on using the e-way and city and occasionally hearing the purr of the kitty you'll get about 20-22 mpg!
