Hello everyone, greetings from Florida. My very first post and have seen a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I just bought my son a 2005 X-type with the 3.0 AWD manual transmission. Unfortunately the serpentine belt flew off and broke the crankshaft position center plug. Now, belt is replaced and so is wiring harness. Here comes the weird part, The car uns and drives very well, BUT when I turn it off it doesn't start back up unless I disconnect the battery for a few hours. After a few hours, I reconnect the battery and engine starts back up like normal and runs fine. Turn it off, no start unless I disconnect the battery again for a few hours....never seen anything like this. Oh! no check engine light or codes. HELP!

jax_Rican, Please stop by the New member section and tell us a little bit about yourself. As you have seen, we pride ourselves in being a better car group and as part of that, we like to get to know one another. This also gives you a chance to meet those that are running things in the background that may be hiding in other corners of the site.

Now, for your problem. The first thing that I would try is to start the car, let it run for say 10 seconds, then turn it off. Now, attempt to restart the car. Does it restart? If yes, then we know it is a heat related issue. If no, then turn the key to the START position and look down at the center console. Do you see a red light there just below the shifter? If yes, then your car is immobilizing the system and that is what is causing your car to not start. Also, look at the message center just above the steering wheel, any messages there? If so, what are they? The other thing that I would tell you to try is to turn the key to the START position and with your other hand give the area of the dash just above the instrument cluster a few good whacks (don't hurt yourself, but good thumps). see if that changes anything. From there, Sounds like you need to have the car put on a computer to see what is immobilizing it.

One last check, when the car does not start, does everything else electrical work (ie, radio, dash blower, all the dash lights, headlights, etc). Lets see if we can spot a common issue. Part of what I am thinking is you have a battery cable that is bad and it just happened to raise its head up when you threw the belt.
