Default New Jag Owner Here !

I just bought an 02 X-type. 2.5 with the sport package. It has a 5 speed manual transmission, 52000 miles on the car. I was wondering (and I almost hate to ask) what problems (if any) should I look foreward to, or look for. Seems like a solid car, but I know zilch about Jags. Thanks in advance for all of your help...

with the manual, you avoid the potential problems some auto transmissions seem to be having. use the clutch in a precise, sensible way, and it should last a long time too. other than that, here and/or in other x-type forums i've seen small issues like door locking mechanisms, small electrical stuff here and there, a moan/whine from the drivetrain that most dealers don't want to touch (but seems harmless). if the previous owner was good to the car, and you continue to be so, it should be a great, enjoyable experience with very few issues for a while to come.

michaels right transporter.........few problems / quirks here n there although nothing really major I've come across ( all depends on who you speak to of course...lol)
Drivers door handle can be problematic intermittently ( known issue) drive train whine, again a known issue but doesn't seem too serious, dash vents pop up on earlier models.
Mine too is an (02) 2.5 Sport but has only 22k miles on her.........no real problems to speak of.

It's a solid car, but be nice to that clutch! You got the best bang for your buck with the 2.5, as it gets decent horsepower and much better MPG than the 3.0! Post some pics and display your baby!

Did you see anywhere in my post where it says good MPG? Nope, sorry mate, didn't think so! It just gets better MPG than the 3.0!

Thanks for the input guys, all much appreciated. I see drivetrain whine (yup I have that), and dash vents popping up (yeah I got that too) LOL. I really like the car. Seems really solid, and I think its sexy as heck. I got it for my wife, the poor woman has been driving a minivan for the last seven years now and I thought she finally deserves a sexy car.
I'm going to spend some time this weekend polishing the paint, but I promise to get some pics up soon. Monday at the latest I swear. Nice to meet all of you, and I'm sure I'll be spending plenty of time on here.

Oh yeah ! I almost forgot ! The manual says to change the oil and filter every 10k miles (what are they smokin'), but it also says to change the Sump Swipe (or something like that. I can't remember for sure what its called). What is that ???

Again, thanks for the responses guys, nice to meet you, and thanks for the welcome.

i change the oil and filter every 5k miles (valvoline synthetic 5W-30); seems like a good compromise between the "3k change absolute" people and the "engineers know what they're recommending" crowd.

the manual is in the car, i'll need to check to see what you saw there.

I still change it every 3K miles! Not very environmentally friendly, but hey...I recycle!

3 K miles is old school method however if you feel unconfortable w/o doing it every 3 K miles, then go for it . You should change engine oil every 6 months whatever mileage you run

I new when I posted it the debate would start. I'm a member of the Dodge Talk forum and the same thing happens over there. Everyone has their preferances as far as oil type and duration just like me. I've just learned to respect them all.

By the way !!! Required newbie pics have been posted ! I started a thread in the new members area introducing myself as well as the car. Several pics in there...

Thereis also a a legendary thread about reducing the zinc level in the oil let alone oil threads . I don't even say "what's the best engine oil " threads lol .What's worse not asking newbies about the oils , some horrific debates and many locking threads

LMAO ! Thank You very much. My right arm hurts from waxing, your arm hurts for other reasons . Anyway I mentioned above about a sump swipe thingy somthin or other.... Anyway it is a sump washer. Manual says to change oil, filter, and sump washer every 10k miles.... What's a sump washer ? I thought I'd been around the block a few times, but than one is new to me... Sump Washer ???

REVALATION !!!!! DING DING DING !!!

Are they talking about the washer on the pan drain bolt ??? I'm thinking washer, as in spraying, cleaning, washing. not washer ! DER !

Nevermind. Brain Fart. Promise it won't happen again...

Sorry bud, but be glad to know you had no brain fart! The sump washer is a washer that goes around the hole of the oil filter!
