Default No sound from replacement stereo

Hi all, this is my first post. I purchased my 2006 X type a year and a half ago and have found the site to be very helpful. One year ago (almost to the day) the CD player quit working (springs popped out, etc., it was finished). I didn't really use it much so I didn't worry about it. Recently I had the chance to buy a stereo from a guy who was upgrading his system and didn't need his old one, which worked fine in his X type.

I installed it this morning; the display works and it accepts CDs without any problems, but there is no sound. I put the old one back in to make sure the the radio worked and it did, so it's not the speakers. All cables and cords are connected... Closest dealer is 3 hours away. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for any tips,

Andrew

hoglaw, sounds like your car is recognizing that it doesn't have the factory radio in it and it is making it so you want to take out the radio (ie, not allowing the sound to come out). Talk to the guy that you bought the radio from and see if you can get the radio code from him. Otherwise, I think you are going to find that you are going to have a really hard time getting the code since getting the code, you have to show proof of ownership for the car that the radio came in from the factory (or proof of sale from a legitimate business like an auto recycler, but even then).

Hey Thermo, I do have the code but since the radio "works" without sound, I'm not locked out and don't know where I would enter the code?

hoglaw, from my memory, it seems to be that the radio will ask for a code as soon as it powers up.

As for your problem, it is sounding like to me that the pinout between the two radios is not exactly the same and therefore the radio is not getting power to the speakers like it needs to be. Without having the car in front of me, i can't be of much more help.

I tried disconnecting the battery overnight to see if that would force me to enter the new code but it didn't. Dealership couldn't believe it didn't make me enter it and wants me to bring it in. Is there another way to reboot the stereo without disconnecting the battery?
