Finally getting around to working on the cat and I don't really like surprises!
Removed airbox and rusty bracket underneath and along with it rusty bolts on valve cover. Can only hope that they come out when I get to that part, but really not feeling good about this tune up.
Car has 141,000 and I was hoping for 200,000 but looks like I haven't done my part to get her there! She still looks great body wise but I have a lot to do to get her passable to drive!
Sprayed the very rusty bolts with penetrate and hope there is no kind of compromising on the head or I am sunk.
Anything I should be watching OUT for??
Still have intake manifold on, had to take a break for lunch but kind of down in the dumps and not sure now if I am up to this? Hey I also noticed a couple of what looks like sand bags under the arch of the IM. Anyone know what they are for? One is even busting lose on one side??

Gee
Don't despair, it only looks daunting. Just take it slow and take a coffee break when you get frustrated.
Take pics as you go if possible, and take care with removing small "dropable" items
Been there done that, I know how frustrating the intake removal can be but as everyone says go slow, keep small parts out of the area and lots of penetrating oil.
A suggestion is to use anti-sieze compuond on the intake manifold bolts for ease of any future work. The engine absolutely has to be cold to remove them. If not you stand a chance of the inserts in the aluminum spinnning and that is a whole different headache.
A good source for used parts is Dr Dome a forum member that parts out x-types. Text or call him at 484-903-4813 tell him Vern said HI.
I have removed and cleaned the airbox, and lead bellows to the TB and sprayed the MAF sensor pretty clean. There was a bubble of carbon on the tip and that is all gone now.
Wanted to get the TB off yesterday evening but just to dang bitter cold out there so I covered the Jag up will have to wait until Tuesday to get going.
Things I plan to do:
finish pulling intake manifold and replace O rings and gaskets with Felpro
Replace plugs + coils all 6
Replace fuel and air filter, PCV valve
Remove and replace valve cover gaskets
I have the battery dis connected so will have to connect and run her through a bunch of tests so that my ECU will reset correct?
Been doing a lot of reading on here and very grateful to all here for advise and encouragement! if all goes as planned she should be running like a champion very soon!
Gee
Ps. Oh the connection under the TB that I was trying to be so careful with cracked into a zillion pieces although it appears I can still get it to connect. Any recommendations here? Search for a used one or buy new, tape the daylights out of it or how about Radio shack and connect?
I had forgotten about that little bugger. Mine did the same thing but the terminals were good and it would plug back in. I haven't had a problem with it for the last 6 months.
If someone could snap a picture of the plug we might be able to match it thru the Ford plug catalog.
