Question O2 Sensors a maintenance item?

Hello,

I read in another post mention that 02 sensors on an X type are a maintenance item - that's the first I have heard of that. Could anyone confirm this with a scan of the relevant workshop page listing the maintenance interval?

Clackavosticus, are they a maintenance item? No. But, what we have found is that normally around 150K miles (250K KM), they will start to not function as well as they should and most people end up replacing them. So, is there a requirement like motor oil to change? No. But, it is a good idea to start planning for the replacement if you are getting up there in mileage on your car. Not a hard job (atleast on hte 3.0L and 2.5L engines), but, you will need a special tool to get the sensors out. The sockets that have the hole in the side probably will give you more grief than what they are going to solve. Spend the extra few dollars and get the offset tool (looks like the bottom half of a socket with a slit on one side and a tab sticking off of it on the other side). The offset tool is much stronger and will not slip on the sensor like the full socket will.

+1

They'll wear out eventually, being sat in the exhaust gas at about 600C.

They are a maintenance item like brakes, wipers, tires, etc. You maintain them when they wear out or fail!! :-) :-) :-) :-)

Thanks for the clarification Thermo - I didn't think they were listed on the maintenance schedule. Although it's good to know roughly when to start considering replacing them. Thanks for the detailed reply.
