Ok so I'm not sure where to start. There is a lot of, words, in these posts. First of all where is one of these insane, hacked together mods you are talking about? About 80% of the people here in the x type section don't have a single modification and never will. The few that do modify their cars have very little aftermarket to work with. These aren't like BMWs or whatever, where almost every part has an aftermarket upgrade. I also can't believe that you've never seen a poorly modified car on any of the other car forums you listed. We have all seen cars with questionable mode regardless of the make or model.

That being said, if you are serious about modifying the x type to get more out of it then I welcome you, and I hope to copy what you find that works haha. Like I said there isn't every much out there, so I make things work that can do the job I want them too.

As far as being worth it, hahahahha. I have spent more just on my x types suspension than I spent to buy the whole car. I know I will never get my money back, I just don't care since I dont plan on ever selling it. Problem solved.

Personally I think this car has a lot of potential to be much more than what it ever could be stock. It also looks, well, you all know, its a beautiful car. You can build 100s, if not 1000s of cars to be faster cheaper and easier but then, I wouldn't be in an awd 5 speed Jaguar sedan, that makes all this worth it. I look at cars as platforms for what I can build them into, I always have, since I was a kid haha. Every car I owned has been modified as best I could to get the real car to match what I have in my brain. That's why I did what I've done so far to my x type, and why I daily drive a ford 2 door explorer sport 5 speed, lowered about 4 inchs, adjustable shocks, and 20x11s with 315/35/20 tires all around, Hurst short shifter and the typical starter mods like exhaust and whatnot. Is it fast? Not yet, needs a 302. Does it handle well? Compared to stock? Heck yes, compared to my very modified x type, not even close hahaha. I mean, its a 2 door SUV, but it sure is fun, and very cheap, well, cost effective ha ha, big smiles per gallon.

Justink201.....The only insanity I found was trying to take an awd platform, welding the front diff, removing just the axles, because you need the CVs to hold up the diff, and hold together the front wheel bearings, making the car a rwd. But as they say, if you can buy it, you can do whatever you want with it. Jaguar has plenty of RWD cars, so my thinking was why not buy one of them in the first place, and maybe get to play with a 12 cylinder to boot....As for our looking at cars as platforms, and almost work them like art, I am with you 200%. I have probably spent $14000 on an 83 Porsche 928S, after spending a little under $50000 on it new, including the European vacation that we took, after picking her up at the factory. I know I will never get my money out, but she will do a little over 165 mph, already timed, with just a 4.7 litre single overhead cam V8. I have balanced her, and kicked compression up, forcing me to use racing gas on the street, and a high voltage coil just to fire the plugs. She runs an ANSA exhaust without a muffler, just resonators. I changed out the fuel pump and injectors, and put racing springs and struts on a car you can't get a floor jack under at stock height. She is running 2 rear spoilers so she whistles at over 100mph. I have 2 transmissions for her, so I can drive on the street, or a high banked track. The lights have been redone, so Brenda and I can go out rallying.....etc.

So far on the Jag it has mainly been little stuff, like adding a mirror with a compass, hanging a plug down for my radar detector next to the mirror, ceramic coating my brake calipers red, and am working on a true cold air induction to be mounted inside of the RF fender. It's amazing what room will open up by just bending the dipstick. I will investigate opening and matching up the intake manifold, but that little tiny throttle body I think is going to cause me some grief. I am not going to mess too much with the exhaust until I figure out a way of replacing the stock throttle body. I intend on putting the Homelink overhead console in, because on Ebay it costs less than a new transponder at Sears. I will probably leave the suspension alone, other than some new tires, because I already have a car that rides like it has no suspension.

The base Jeep Liberty sport I traded for the Jag, along with a pretty beat Corvette is still being driven by the dealer's wife, because she likes the looks, and all the other leather and electrical goodies I pulled out of a wrecked Liberty Limited I got from an insurance auction. I also replaced the 2 din radio with navigation, DVD, back up camera and bluetooth I got from China, off of Ebay, and a set of 18" outlaw wheels with Goodyears. She bailed out of the Lexus she was driving, because it was from Florida and only had 2wd. I find it is amazing what I do, when I am bored. My wife is still kinda pissed I got rid of the Liberty for "Just a Jaguar".....Be cool.....Mike

You don't need to build a beast that will over tax the drive train, to pull a little harder on the highway. She just needs to breathe. Calipers and other mods are just part of the fun of improving what an engineer needed to compromise on, because of cost or time."

To a point, more air in, more air out makes a happy engine. I must be just below the threshold where the ECU complains with these mods I've done for performance.

During spark plug change with intake manifold removed, use a dremmel tool to create a knife edge instead flat face for better air flow.

Add a cold air pick up straight to the air box.

I completed the more air in and out thing by swapping the stock mufflers for Magnaflows. The stock mufflers are huge and heavy, the Mags are light and small.

I also use a K&N air filter for more air flow. So altogether I have the extra nostril out the front, the free flow air filter, knife edge intake, and Magnaflows. This car sounds ready and willing at all RPMs. It gets all the air it wants but I still have the resonator thing in there, should straight-pipe that.

I have a hill here in Phoenix where I WOT on the climb and run up to 6400 rpms just to open it up with a good load on the engine. I don't get much chances to race ppl and that's a bad idea on city streets anyway. That said, my X has about as much pull as a 2.5L version can have with what I'd call "passive mods". I don't carry the spare tire, jack, or lug wrench in my trunk; that's about 50lbs of subtracted weight.

My gear boxes, including the rear diff. all have Royal P. or Mobile 1 and my prop shaft bearing is new so I minimize drag in these areas. My engine runs great too, but with these mods I want to go to a dyno place bc I understand they can do a "dyno tune" to my car. I don't know what that is but I think I want it. Lol.

I love the X Type. I keep fending myself off of buying a 2nd one just bc I don't actually need it, and I'd have to spend a lot of time modding the next one to be as cool as mine!

Looks cool. I especially like the throttle body thing. That seems to be the major intake problem, as far as getting air through. You would be amazed at what Corvette guys do to their throttle bodies for the same reason......nice car.....Be cool...Mike
