Default RE: oem navigation install question

I have fitted or advised people who have fitted 2002-2007 revision touch screensinto cars from earlier, and later model years, with no problems yet. The important bitsare:
a) it needs to be for an X-Type (it must have a big 'Auto' button to the left of the lower LCD screen).
b) it needs to match your vehicle's spec of heated or non-heated front windscreen.
If it meets both of those then it should work perfectly.

For the record (mainly for other peoples' benefit), you will also need a remote climate control module to replace your auto panel one, a GPS antenna of some kind, the sat nav DVD unit, an upgrade harness (or OEM navi harness and replacement dash/instrument panel harness), and a single-height stereo head unit.

TV-equipped or not is your choice. If you go for the TV option then you will need some RG179 coaxial cable and some MCX connectors unless you go for the OEM harness. Any suitable antenna and booster (x4 of each) will work fine.

I don't want to say "NO", because I don't know, but certainly in the retrofits I've done it hasn't been an issue. In fact I don't think any of the cars actually had the correct year touch screen put in--just what was available on eBay at the time.

Another quick thing I ought to mention before I forget:
c) The trime level must be the same as your car (either a gunmetal grey style for most, or a matt almost-black for the sports premium trim).

Doesnt the DVD unit go in the boot to play the DVDs?

You are both correct, sort of.

The DVD unit does indeed go in the boot, it is both the bit that reads the navigation DVD and also all the electronics for the sat nav system and the touch screen menus, etc. The stereo head unit (either a CD player, tape deck or MD player) also needs to be replaced because the non-touch screen cars have a double height unit with integrated telephone button controls, and a large LCD that displays the current radio station. It is not possible to remove those buttons because they share a circuit board with the head unit fascia.
