Default Old Motorola Phone- Still Mounted 2002 X-Type

I am replacing the original Jag radio with a new Doubler DIN unit from pioneer. The Jag radio has no left side sound. The old Motorola phone is mounted on the side the radio stack, and I want to remove it, even though my wife thinks it is cool.
I don't want to just start snipping wires in case it is wired into anything important. Has anyone removed one of these uinits and how careful where you doing it?

OOh - following this with interest - if you *do* come up with a safe way to take it out - I would be interested in acquiring it from you.

I am going at it next week, I think I will end up pulling the whole centre console to get it out. It seems to have about 10 feet of wire rolled up under the ash tray area and where it goes from there is a mystery. You want it it's yours. I will becareful.

LOL - I *just* stumbled across this searching for something else in my subscriptions - did you ever get this out, and what did you end up doing with the phone?

I had a fully functional Nokia 6230 with full hands free kit and 'leather' mount in mine till I swapped it out for a double din head unit with Bluetooth this week....it was delightfully retro but not much use in this day and age.
