Default One thing leads to another..

So I replaced the IMT O-Rings. The old yellow ones were shot. They were mashed flat and there was dirt getting in and im sure they were leaking.

I also cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor. (I am assuming this is the item between the air filter and the throttle body) This was very dirty and I cleaned it with the CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner.

I also cleaned the throtle body opening where the butterfly valve is. This was also very dirty. Used a standard throttle body cleaner for this.

So, now the car is not going into limp mode and it seems as if the problem is gone.

However, there seems to be a new problem. As you are driving normally, if you take your foot off the gas pedal the car sort of like downshifts or jerks to a slower speed. Also, when the car is put into Drive, the RPM's come up to about 1100 and the car seems to want to go on its own with no assistance from the driver. (thats wierd!).

Is it possible to have installed something wrong when reinstalling the IMT's. Could they be upside down? IDK.

Could I have damaged the MAS? I didn't scrub it or rub it with a cloth. I just sprayed it down with the cleaner.

HELP!!

Thanks again..
Andy

That sounds kind of like torque coverter lag, what do you mean by move on its own? Like it rolls when in drive and your foot is off the break?

Does not matter which way the O rings go in. Somebody else described a similar problem after they cleaned their throtle body--not sure if they got and answer either.

Never mind, it was you that had the issue after cleaning the TB--still having the issue?

As I had replied before, I have read that cleaning the TB is not a good idea. The cleaner can push dirt and oil into the sensor and cause problems.

Yes. still having issues.

I know the O-Rings don't matter. I meant does it matter which way the IMT device goes in? Can the IMT "thing" that the O-Ring goes on possibly be in upside down and would it matter? There are 2 bolts holding the IMT in place.

Also, you meantioned that the "cleaner can push dirt into and oil into the sensor". What sensor and how do I check it?

When I say "move on its own" I mean that when you put the car in "Drive" the rpm's come up on their own and the car starts to accelerate forward without assist from the driver. RPM's come up to about 1100 or 1200 without the drivers assistance.

Thanks,
Andy
