Hi,

I'm a new owner of an 05 Jag X-Type it had 80k miles on it and now has a bit over 90k.

After 2 months of bliss recently I have been getting a flashing check engine light. I had the car read with an OBDII deive and the following codes showed up.

P0301 Cyl 1 Misfire
P1313 Lean Surge
P1316

Im a newbie so be gentle! LOL

EM, I would do a quick look at your #1 cylinder coil. I would say to swap it with #3 cylinder and see if the problem moves. if it does, then you have confirmed a problem with that coil (coils are a common problem). If the problem sticks with cylinder #1, then I would say to look at the plug. If the plug has a big coating of black on it (or is "wet", this is fuel on the plug), then you are looking at either a bad plug or a leaking fuel injector. If you want to dive into things and start going into this, let me know.

I drove it through a deep puddle during a tornado this past weekend. It was working fine prior to this.

If you are right the plugs are probably wet. but I will take it in to get the spark plugs replaced tomorrow.

If the spark plugs were flooded due to driving through deep water, after an hour of driving the car, the water would have boiled away. So, if you are still getting that problem, odds are it is something different. Keep in mind that water can get into the coils themselves and be really hard to get out. But, it tends to get better after a long dry spell. But, during the next rain or run through a puddle, it will act up again.
