Default p0430 sensor location? Bank2 Cat under efficiency.

Hello everyone.

I am getting the dreaded p0430 code and it keeps coming back.

X Type has 131K miles on it, and runs like a champ other than this.

I know you can "fool" the sensor with a spacer, however, where exactly IS this sensor, because I am going to try that before I replace the Cat Converter (which would probably cost more than the car is worth).

Car is a 2003 X-Type 3.0

I just need to know where the sensor is actually located, I have the sockets, etc...to replace it.

Thanks,

There are four oxygen sensors used on the X-Type exhaust; two on each bank. Bank2 is the LH side of the engine when viewed from the driver's position. One of the sensors is upstream of the catalyst while the other is downstream. You can certainly add 'spacers' to the sensors, but the vehicle will still fail an emissions or smog test as the composition of the exhaust gasses will be unchanged.

From my experience, replacing the catalytic converter will permanently and correctly eliminate P0430. Replacing the oxygen sensors is a waste of money and time.
