Smile P1647

Good Day from Allen, Texas.

I have a 2003 X-Type. My engine light came on, so attached the code reader, and came up with 1647. I understand that's a O2 sensor, bank 2. Where is this located? (some research tells me that's it on the driver's side of the engine, with access under the battery. I was looking for parts, and the question I have, is this upstream or downstream? That was a question that I did not know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Mic

Mic,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

As you can see from the the excerpt below on the x-type banks 2 is closest to the radiator. The bank 2 O2 sensor fortunately is the easiest to replace. The connector is located underneath the battery.

I almost forgot before tossing out the O2 sensor replace fuses 38 and 42 they are for the O2 sensors. I can't recall which is for the bank 2. They can test good but replacing them will eliminate corrosion that might effect contact.

References to Bank-1 and Bank-2 are made with regard to the engine. When viewed from the flywheel the right-hand bank will be Bank-1
and the left-hand bank will be Bank-2.

Thank you. Just to clarify...If I'm sitting in the drivers seat, my battery is left of the engine, so the sensor is under that? If I am standing in front of the car, everything is on the right? Looking at ordering sensors, they refer to upstream and downstream. Which is which?

The O2 sensor is mounted on the exhaust. The upper is before the catalytic convertor and the lower is after. The connector for the wiring is underneath the battery.
