Default P1647 AND P1000 x-type 03 3.0

Hello all,

I have an 03 3.0 X-Type t that I just bought, and drove home from VA to MD without any issues. When I bought it from the dealer, he told me that They just changed the Upstream O2. He told me that the downstream needed done yet, and that would clear the CEL. Well, I just took it to Autozone today to get the codes, and it came up with P1647 (upstream), and P1000 which from Google I learned just means it hasn't reset. I am not mechanically inclined, but would the downstream cause that code to throw? Im not sure on the relationship. Or, is the small time dealer incorrect? Im thinking maybe he changed the upstream, but didn't test power getting to it? Can I have an expert jump in here? I am going to take it to a mechanic, but want to know as much as possible to not get ripped off. Thank you kindly.

-130k
-Extremely clean car and engine from a visual standpoint.
-Car runs very smooth without any loss of power.
-Carfax was clear
-All service records indicate regular service was done.

There are four O2 sensors and there are a large number of possible codes associated with them. But P1647 is specifically P1647 is the Upstream one on the radiator side.

Having replaced it, if he didn't clear the code, it might take a few runs in the car for it to clear itself, unless there's still a problem with the sensor or its wiring.

Doesn't sound fixed but to be sure just clear the codes, drive for a few days and check all you have is (pending) P1111 in which case it's good.

Just got the car back from the shop. Turns out that the dealer that told me he replaced the upstream O2, really didn't. I even talked personally to the mechanic at that dealer and he told me he did the job. What he actually did was, try to splice some wires with electrical tape. One of the wires was completely detached(Garage gave the used O2 to me for proof). So I had a new upstream put in, and all is well.

Default Which O2 sensor?

I have a 2002 X-Type with the 3.0 engine. I have the P1647 code telling me it's the upstream unit that is bad. Now I realize that there are TWO upstream sensors. How does one delineate between the two as to which one is bad? I only want to purchase one. And, where is it located?
Thank you,
Dave

I always change them out in pair so there is no issues. This is an easy fix. p1647 is in the front of the car close to the radiator. If you look there is two. The upper and the lower one. You want to change the upper one.

Good Luck,
The Dr!
