Default pcv

hi i'm looking to replace the pcv valve on my 2001 2.5 x type. I'm confused with the cost, on the same site what looks like the same item priced at £7.00 and next to it the same item at £26.00. It says the cheaper one is good from 2003 on. Does anyone know if Jaguar changed the pcv valve in 2003

Looking at the parts catalog at JAGBITS one of our forum sponsors shows that the PCV valve changed after, BREATHER VALVE FITS 2002 X-TYPE up to ENGINE NUMBER 173663.
The 2003 to 2008 is about a third of the cost of the earlier one.

I wish I knew what the difference between them was.

Can anyone with the new tube (which should be everyone) put the newer PCV valve in? My local NAPA Auto Parts wanted $100 including shipping.

I don't feel like spending $40, if I can avoid it, which is about as cheap as I could find it, with shipping.

The angle of those photos is different, but aside from color, they look the same to me. I'm just curious as to what is on the inside.

$50 is not big money, but if I don't need to spend it, I'd rather not.

Are they set at a different pressure, or something?

Y'all do realize that Jaguar issued a SERVICE ACTION S928am January 2003.
The early PCV was found to have pintle spring issues so a revised valve was offered.

"Action:
At the next available opportunity, check the crankcase breather valve. If the
crankcase breather valve body is black, replace the current valve with a new
improved design valve, part number: C2S 25648. If the crankcase breather valve
body is green or grey no further action is required."

Thanks Bob!

I was just wondering why the green PCV valve costs twice what the grey one does, and what the difference is inside.

Also, since you seem very knowledgeable about these motors, here's an embarrassing question for you:

While removing my rear cat, I dropped a socket into the engine bay which promptly disappeared. I dropped it while removing the exhaust manifold. Even with the exhaust manifold off and cat out, I couldn't find it.

I put everything together and now I have an incredibly annoying rattle. It seems to get worse if I brake or turn right, and sounds like it is bouncing on a heat shield somewhere.

It sounds very TINNY. (Monty Python....)

I tried to find it from underneath, but couldn't.

I got an endoscope, but it doesn't work with my phone...

Anyway, any ideas are appreciated. Thank you!
