Default Plastic Engine Cover?

Looking for one of these covers:

Where can I find one used and cheap. Ebay has nothing and I don't know of dismantelers in the Seattle area.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yeah, mine's missing too...
Word of advice: There's also an "engine cover mounting plate" bolted to the airbox, might wanna get that too.

Motorcars LTD salvage website. They'll get you one and get you one fast and ship it pretty cheap. Just send them an e-mail or call and you'll have it.

exexpat, check out http://www.waltandverns.com. They are an auto recycler near you (Buckley, WA). I have used them and they are good people to do business with. If they don't have the part on their lot, they will be able to get it for you. Take a little ride south and see what they can do for you.

Thanks all. jagbits quoted me $130 for cover + hardware, but I'm not sure whether that is competitive. Does that seem like a fair price?

So there’s no dumb questions, only inquisitive idiots – This inquisitive idiot wants to know if this cover was a standard fitment all the 3.0 X-types or an addition to later years? Our 2004 shows no sign of this ever been fitted.

It would appear they only came on 2002/2003 model years. Seems like a wierd thing to discontinue, but I'll find out if there was a fitment reason for it when I try to mount one on my 2004 3.0.

I doubt it's even necessary - my 2005 doesn't have it, and most of the pictures of X-Type engines I've seen over the years don't have it either. Probably explains why they discontinued it.

I want it to clean up the engine bay. That is its only true purpose.

exexpat, most manufacturers put a cover over the engine to hide all the running parts so when someone unfamiliar with cars opens the hood, they see a nice clean look (which is becoming a larger and larger percentage of the population). I have the engine cover on my car and while it does help to make the engine compartment appear more "neat and tidy", I do notice that the cover rubs on the underside of the hood in a few places as you can see the indentions in the sound blanket that is attached to the hood. Not a big deal and it doesn't make any rattles. Personally, if you don't have it on, i would leave it off as it will promote better air circulation in the engine bay and help some components last longer as they won't be subjected to as much heat.

Perfect, that is exactly what I want. Form over function. Thanks Chris.

$130 seems a little steep to me. I mean it's just a chunk of molded plastic. Mine does touch the sound mat on the hood as Thermo said, right on the left upper corner (facing the engine).

I've ordered it. At least the price includes shipping. I'll be painting it and doing other engine clean up in the next 2 weeks for the "grand engine unveiling"

(that was a subtle reference to my buddy Allen's signature )
