Default Please help -battery cable!

I posted this question a month or so ago, and got very limited response, so I'll try again. My alternator light keeps coming on intermittently. Everything works fine and I took it to Advance and had the battery, alternator and everything checked out. It all shows good. My positive cable feels red hot though after driving a while. So I bought a new one. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to connect it to the back of the alternator. I can't even see the alternator, although I know about where it has to be. The starter connection looks pretty easy, but it's where the long lead runs across, under the air box and down to the alternator. One of you guys that have done this must be able to tell me what is the trick? Do you have to renove the a/c compressor or something else to get to it?

Thanks -I did several searches and never saw that thread. That helps, although it appears it is truly a bitch of a thing to deal with. I will let you know what happens.............

The only part of changing those cables that is a nightmare is the alternator bolt. Be extremely careful, with it. In my old 04 X I ended up breaking one of my fan blades which led to having to replace the fans fixture.

I checked out the cables in my "new" 05 X type with 50K miles and they look really bad. I already have new cables but would like to hear how others got that bolt out.

Does anyone have a tool recommendation or approach to removing the nut in the alternator? The battery cables in my X type look like they have seen better days, and I am now having a charging light come on after removing the battery multiple times over the past week to change the transmission oil. I think the taking cables on and of multiple times finally killed at least one of the cables. I have both Jaguar negative and positive cables ready to install and I will get a new battery as well.

Any help in getting that demonic bolt out is greatly appreciated

Yes, I make the same plea. Anyone who has done this must be able to give some insight as to what tools & how to get at that nut. Can you even reach your hand down in there & feel it? I know there is a little rubber cover that has to come off first, but how do you access it if you can't see it or even feel it? Plus, how do you get it back on again, if by some miracle you get the new cable down in there?

I recently replaced an alternator, so, this procedure may be overkill. You could start by draining the coolant. Then, remove the airbox and upper coolant hose. You should now have access to the alternator. There are videos on youtube covering these topics.

Did the job this morning. Socket wrench with a very long extension. You have to come in from the drivers side. The bolt was truly a pain to get to.

From above. Assuming you already the air box and everything removed, you would come in from the area where the fan controller is with your small socket wrench and the longest possible extension.

How did you get the rubber cover off the nut, plus back on again?
