Default Please tell me I am wrong...

Am I missing something...or am I correct....
I am replacing the carrier bearing (driveshaft support) on my 97 XJ6.
Do I actually need to remove the catalytic convertors to get it out?
Still has the originals on it...with 125k
Should I go ahead and replace them while I am there?
Car does give a faulty cat code...Previous owner had replaced a couple of the coils, so I assume it may have gotten the cats before he fixed them.
Anyone used a single with dual outlet universal cat?

Thanks, all opinions and info are welcome and appreciated!!
